Learning Through Play

Language: Conversation – Use classic sensory activities like this to embed language about any topic of interest for the children. Serve-and-return interactions with a loving adult is an important part of children’s development, and sensory activities allow this to happen in a calming environment.

Social-Emotional: Self-Regulation – Children might swirl the colors together, might immerse their whole arms or feet in the bubbles, or may want to wash their favorite animal. This is great! When children enjoy a material, see where you can meet them where they are and encourage these types of positive interactions with a learning environment.

School Readiness: Sorting – Invite children to choose which color foam they want to make. What happens if we mix the colors? Sorting colors is a useful-id that children will use for a variety of school based learning activities in math, science, art, and more!
